Found at an Antique Store
Posted on 21 April 2013
We were at an antique store the other day and I can never resist looking at old books. I found this little leather-bound 4" x 6" pocket-size version of Persuasion by Jane Austin, and couldn't resist. I know I could read everything on an iPad, but I love reading old books. Persuasion was first published in 1818 and this book was published in 1899, so even thought it's over 100 years old, it was printed 80 years after the first copy was published. I like thinking about all the women who have read this particular copy, carrying it in a small purse while traveling, or it sitting next to their bed. I haven't started reading it yet (I read it years ago), but I'm thinking it will be a good summer read while sitting on my patio with a cup of tea and the birds chirping in the trees.
On a totally different note...here are some things I saw while antiquing, but didn't buy:
(To be honest—I don't think either the mannequin or the wig it's sporting was for sale. It was wearing a Beatles t-shirt, hence the backwards wig, I think).
